Summer – meadow. Painted in 1874; oil on canvas: 57 cm x 80 cm; Berlin State Gallery, Berlin. The works painted at Argenteuil vary in technique, and to present the various natural effects before him, Monet explored techniques adapted to them. Summer – Grassland is quite fresh and simple, and the bold strokes are perfect, so that the viewer's eye can fall on the foreground and the young leaves of the young trees. Even the main characters are painted with simple blocks of color, and their strokes are no more delicate than other elements of the image. The painting's composition is as simple as its technique. Trees and figures are scattered randomly around the image, but the two tallest draw attention to the inconspicuously seated woman. There is no light in the painting, which is used to express the perspective of spatial distance, and the distance is through the background. The light blue representation of grass and trees under the sun is also expressed by light green and Light yellow grass and trees under the sun. This painting can be compared to Spring, painted in 1886, which depicts a similar but more elaborate scene. "Summer - Meadows" was exhibited at the Second Exhibition of the Impressionist Group in 1876.
