Painting background

This is an 1892 painting by Edvard Munch. "Despair" is part of a series of paintings about Edvard Munch's psychological experience during his detention in France. This painting precedes his famous painting "The Scream", and there is another painting "Worry", which also uses the same background and sky. The colors are full of depression and blood. Loneliness overflows the painting. He was immersed in his own sad world and couldn't get out. Munch created two paintings of "Despair" between 1892 and 1893. One is facing away from the image with only a small part of the side exposed, and the other is facing the image with two-thirds of the face exposed.
