Chu Teh-Chun admits: "I love Chinese poetry, which blends naturally with my paintings. Western art critics think my abstract works are inspired by poetry, and that's true." The combination of landscape painting and poetry began to appear as early as the Wei and Jin dynasties (220 AD) in China; the pastoral poetry and ink painting of the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei continued this tradition; and in the Song dynasty, Su Shi and Mi Fu advocated the combination of poetry and painting. First, he brought this art form to its peak, and since then, it has become an important part of China's cultural heritage. Chu Teh-Chun believes that poetry and painting follow "the same rules and rhythms." He has studied calligraphy throughout his life, and through painting he displays the poetry of many famous Chinese poets, especially works involving the bitterness of leaving home and exile. . The poet and art critic Jean-Clarence Lambert compared him to "one of the greatest cosmic visionaries of ancient Greece."
