Description

Painting background

Vase of Pink Roses by Vincent-Van Gogh at Saint-Rémy, 1890. The work was whitewashed at the time, and Van Gogh was preparing to leave the Saint-Rémy sanctuary for the sleepy town of Auvers-sur-Oise, in the outskirts of Paris. This and similar dates for Pink Rose reflected Van Gogh's optimism about the future at the time, in terms of his choice of flowers as subject matter, as well as the colors used. This painting is from the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. While Van Gogh is not thought to have had a specific association with roses, the National Gallery of Art (NGA) states: "It is clear that he viewed all flowering plants as a celebration of the birth and renewal of life. It is this feeling that is alive and well… Here, the feeling is accentuated by the cool green of the background, which has a novel color. Go in the spring." NGA further describes the painting: “The undulating strips of paint are applied in diagonal strokes, animating the canvas, effect and bringing to life the curly shapes of flowers and leaves. Originally the roses were pink, the color had faded, a complementary color that contrasted with the green.”[1] This painting is one of several examples in Van Gogh's plethora of still lifes, filling the picture plane with overflowing vases and flowers. Other examples are Still Life with Carnations and Still Life with Anemones. [3] The lush bouquet of roses is said to be one of Van Gogh's largest and most beautiful still lifes. Van Gogh made another painting of roses in Saint-Rémy, which is on display in the exhibition. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.[1] When Van Gogh left Saint-Rémy on May 16, two roses and a very thick paint dried. Van Gogh expected the paint to take a month to dry. They arrive at Van Gogh's last residence, Auvers-sur-Oise, until June 24

  2. Monica Garcia C. -

Absolutamente hermoso.

  3. rubencesar.bastos -
